Some dumbass who worked for/ owned a portion of/acted as director for a company also decided to act as the company’s lawyer. He filed a lawsuit against some people who built a restaurant over an easement which was the only way onto some property the company owned. Before they could go to court, his company went bankrupt. This caused the lawsuit to be dropped. So, the people who were being sued filed suit against him to recover their own lawyer’s fees. T here are rules which are supposed to keep lawyers from representing clients when the lawyer has a vested interest in the client’s business. Because of these rules, the lawyer was held liable for the other guy’s fees and now has to come up with $300k to pay him back.
